New Year may be the merriest time of the year, but it is in no way ‘merry’ for your body line. We just can’t help ourselves from feasting. Once the middle of January comes, we become more aware of the cruelty we’ve inflicted on our bodies; while we did enjoy all the high-calorie meals and couldn’t stop at just a glass of wine, now is the time to face the consequences. Truth be told, you need a body detox. And you need it now!

  • THROW AWAY ANY UNHEALTHY FOODS FROM YOUR FRIDGE

The easiest way to stay away from unhealthy foods is by doing exactly that- staying away from unhealthy foods. Far from the eyes, far from the heart, right? You don’t need unhealthy foods rich in fats, desserts and fizzy drinks; instead reserve the shelves for fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, dried fruits and vegetables. A soup here, a smoothie there and soon enough your body will feel much lighter.

P.S. If you don’t like throwing away food, then it’s party time. Invite your friends for a nice evening in, prepare the last feast for the season, and tomorrow – you’ll start fresh!

  • STAY AT HOME FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS

While your body is going through detox, it is performing a very difficult task of toxin excretion. This process takes a lot of the body’s energy, so you don’t want to expose your body to unnecessary energy consumption. Simply stay in bad as much possible and get enough sleep. This sounds like a prize and not like a punishment, doesn’t it?

For hundreds of years, nutritionists have been saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Why is that? The body needs energy to start the day, and where other can it get the needed energy other than from food? This doesn’t mean that you should eat a pound of pork as soon as you open your eyes. Instead, take a cup of green tea with fresh fruits and a small bowl of gluten-free flakes like millet or amaranth. This way your body will get all the minerals and vitamins it needs and you won’t feel over-fed. On top of that, it takes no more than 5 minutes to prepare, so you can sleep a bit longer instead of wasting time on preparing complicated, unhealthy meal.

Light stretching and breathing exercises will take 10 minutes of your day and won’t tire you out. The higher the amount of oxygen in the body, the better; these exercises will do exactly that. Yoga is another great tool to purify the body. For extra relaxation, choose a chill, soothing music. Has it been a while since you last saw your friend? It’s time for an afternoon walk that will suit your body and soul as well.

The last meal of the day should be at least 4 hours before bedtime. Always choose light foods like fresh salads or boiled cereals, or you can always opt for a soup.
